Stronger EU action to better tackle violent radicalisation leading to terrorism2016.06.16

Delivering on its European Agenda on Security, the European Commission is presenting further steps to support Member States in preventing and countering violent radicalisation leading to terrorism.

A new strategy to put culture at the heart of EU international relations2016.06.10

The strategy adopted is in line with the Commission's priority to make the EU a stronger global actor. Culture can play a crucial role in strengthening international partnerships.

The 'Strategy for international cultural relations' presented by the European Commission and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy aims at encouraging cultural cooperation between the EU and its partner countries and promoting a global order based on peace, the rule of law, freedom of expression, mutual understanding and respect for fundamental values.

We welcome that Frontex and NATO reached a common understanding on the modalities of their cooperation in the Aegean Sea.These operational modalities will maximise the effectiveness, ensure consistency and complementarity of the FRONTEX operation "Poseidon Rapid Intervention" in the area and the efforts of NATO's support activities. 


Back to Schengen: Commission proposes Roadmap for restoring fully functioning Schengen system2016.03.07

The Commission presented a detailed Roadmap of the concrete steps needed to return order to the management of the EU's external and internal borders. The creation of the Schengen area without internal borders has brought important benefits to European citizens and business alike, yet in recent months the system has been severely tested by the refugee crisis. The European Council of 18-19 February set the clear mandate of restoring the normal functioning of the Schengen area, and to do so in a concerted manner, while giving full support to Member States facing difficult circumstances.

The new Erasmus+ programme aims to support actions in the fields of Education, Training, Youth and Sport for the period 2014-2020.2016.01.21.

 Erasmus+ replaces seven programmes bringing together
 •The Lifelong Learning Programme (Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci, Comenius, Grundtvig and Jean Monnet)
 •The Youth in Action programme
 •Five international cooperation programmes (Erasmus Mundus, Tempus, Alfa, Edulink, the programme for cooperation with industrialised countries)
 •The new sport action.
